Maguire Leaves MJZ to Join Goodby

NEW YORK Mike Maguire has left the directing team of Kuntz & Maguire to join Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, the agency confirmed.

Maguire will be associate creative director at the San Francisco shop, beginning in April. Maguire and Tom Kuntz have been directing partners at production company MJZ since 2001. Before that, they worked at MTV’s in-house production company and got their start in advertising as junior creatives at Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners in New York, where Maguire was a copywriter.

Known for their humorous, over-the-top style, the two have directed commercials like “Mr. Foot-long Hot Dog Inventor” for DDB’s “Real Men of Genius” Bud Light campaign, spots for Sega’s Beta 7 series from Wieden + Kennedy in New York, and campaigns for Fox Sports, ESPN and Molson, among others.

They also directed a movie based on the satirical weekly newspaper The Onion, which has not yet been released.

Tom Kuntz will remain at MJZ as a director.
