The television, radio and print effort, created by August, Lang & Husak in Bethesda, Md., is designed to educate consumers about so-called “communication disorders.”

“How to destroy your ears slowly” is the tagline of one of the spots depicting a set of stereo headphones.

More than 42 million Americans are afflicted with a variety of such potentially debilitating conditions, including stuttering, hearing loss and aphasia (difficulty in speaking or comprehending speech, typically triggered by stroke).

“Today he spoke his first words. Not bad for an ex-marine,” headlines a second print ad targeting the familiesof stroke victims.

Based in Rockville, Md., ASHA is the professional organization for more than 99,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists and other specialists who diagnose and treat such problems.
