SYDNEY – Australia’s largest bank advertising account, the $14-million Commonwealth Bank business, has been awarded to Lintas:Sydney after a lengthy battle with sister Interpublic agency McCann-Erickson and incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi here. It’s been said that Lintas was favored because Interpublic’s media shop, Merchant & Partners, already handles media buying for the bank. Meanwhile, attention has been turned to McCann, which has been caught stepping out behind the back of its $4-million bank client, Suncorp. Sources said that Suncorp was repeatedly told by McCann that it was not in the Commonwealth pitch.
