Leplae To Head Nissan Account At TBWA C/D

TBWA Chiat/Day is expected to announce a new U.S. account director on its $250 million Nissan Motor Corp. U.S.A. business. The move comes as the agency breaks a new phase of its “Own one and you’ll understand” campaign for Nissan luxury unit Infiniti.
Robert LePlae, a senior vice president and group account director at Rubin Postaer and Associates, is expected to be named to head the account of the car maker’s Nissan division in the U.S. as early as this week, according to sources.
Gerry Rubin, president and chief executive of the Santa Monica, Calif.-based RPA, confirmed LePlae is set to join TBWA C/D. “He’s a good marketing guy. I’m sure his experience made him the best guy for the job,” Rubin said. TBWA C/D’s Venice, Calif., office has been seeking a U.S. account director on Nissan since Pam Keehn shifted to a similar position on the $200 million Taco Bell business last December. LePlae declined to comment on his pending move, as did executives at TBWA C/D. In his new post, LePlae will report to Steve Goldman, co-managing director in Venice, and to Tom Patty, president and worldwide Nissan account director.
In his 10 years at RPA, LePlae worked on nearly all the shop’s accounts, including five years on flagship client American Honda Motor Co. In recent years, he has focused on many of RPA’s nonautomotive accounts.
The move comes just as TBWA C/D is breaking TV work to support the rollout of Infiniti’s new entry-level vehicle, the G20. The ads continue the humorous campaign that broke last year, according to Brad Bradshaw, vice president of marketing for Nissan and Infiniti.
