NEW YORK TBWA North American president Robert LePlae is leaving the Omnicom Group agency after nearly 11 years.
LePlae is known for his knowledge of — and ties to — Nissan, a key global client of the agency. He joined the Playa del Rey, Calif., office of TBWA\Chiat\Day in May 1998 as a managing director and a year later moved to Tokyo to become president and CEO of G1/Worldwide, the agency’s joint venture with Hakuhodo on Nissan.
LePlae returned to the Playa del Rey office in 2001 as president and CEO, assuming his N.A. role in September 2005. At the time, he shifted to the New York office to fill the gap left by the exit of TBWA New York Group president Brett Gosper.
In a statement, TBWA worldwide CEO Tom Carroll described LePlae as a “very influential member of TBWA,” adding, “We wish he and his family all the best.”
LePlae described his tenure at the shop as a “tremendous life and career experience in accomplishing all we have as a network.”
He added: “I’m enthusiastic about the opportunities in front of me and greatly appreciative of all the people that made my time at TBWA so fulfilling.”
TBWA does not plan to fill the N.A. role, given that its two U.S offices already have business and creative leaders.
