At Least 5 Advance for Toys R Us

NEW YORK At least five agencies have advanced in the review for the creative portion of Toys R Us’ estimated $120 million ad account, sources said.

Omnicom Group’s DDB in Chicago; WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam; Interpublic Group’s Deutsch and Foote Cone & Belding, all in New York; and the incumbent, Publicis Groupe’s Leo Burnett in Chicago, will be briefed by the Wayne, N.J., client this week, sources said. Creative and strategic presentations are set for early May.

Media duties, currently handled by Publicis Groupe’s Starcom in Chicago, are not in play.

In late March, the client asked an undisclosed number of agencies to submit credentials, including, WPP’s Berlin Cameron/Red Cell in New York and MDC Partners’ Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, sources said. The status of those shops could not be determined.

Calls to Toys R Us chief marketing officer Warren Kornblum were not returned.
