Kuperman Leaving TBWA\Chiat\Day

Bob Kuperman is leaving TBWA\Chiat\Day after15-plus years to go home again, to DDB.

An art director by trade, he will be overseeing the New York office, with the title of chairman.

Kuperman, who has held various titles at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles and New York, was most recently elevated to president/CEO of the Americas for TBWA Worldwide. In that role, he was somewhat removed from the day-to-day operations, overseeing the various presidents who ran the individual offices.

“He really had a desire to be more hands on with the product, the people and the clients,” said John Wren, CEO of Omnicom, which owns both DDB and TBWA\C\D. “And this was a great opportunity for Bob to accomplish that objective with people he had worked with in the past and with new people–and he loves the place. I’m happy for Bob, for us and for DDB.”

Kuperman worked at the former Doyle Dane Bernbach as an art director and creative director from 1966 to 1970, on accounts that included the Volkswagen Beetle. He also worked at the shop when it became known as DDB Needham. In 1987, he joined what was then Chiat/Day.

The announcement of the appointment is scheduled for Friday; Kuperman could not be reached.
