Kellogg Names Top Marketer

CHICAGO Kellogg on Wednesday named Alan Harris, formerly president of the company’s international division, chief marketing and customer officer, overseeing global marketing, sales, nutrition, innovation and business development.

In the new post, Harris will report to David Mackay, president and chief operating officer of the Battle Creek, Mich., company. Harris will continue to oversee the company’s Asian and Australian divisions.

Kellogg’s global advertising budget is estimated at $500 million. The company’s lead U.S. advertising agency is Publicis Groupe’s Leo Burnett in Chicago. Agencies engaged for overseas efforts include Burnett and WPP Group’s J. Walter Thompson.

A nearly 20-year company veteran, Harris has served in a variety of executive positions, including president of Kellogg Canada, Kellogg Latin America and Kellogg Europe, as well as president of sales and marketing for Kellogg USA.

“I can’t think of a better person for this position than Alan Harris,” said Mackay in a statement. “He has achieved an impressive record of success in marketing and management positions during nearly 20 years with Kellogg.”
