KB+P Hires Senior Creative

NEW YORK Isidoro Debellis, former partner and ecd at WPP Group’s Berlin Cameron United, is joining MDC Partners’ Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners here in a senior creative role, said Richard Kirshenbaum, CCO and co-founder.

“We always look for the best talent, and Izzy has it,” said Kirshenbaum. “It’s like recruiting for a sports team; when you can get one of the best people in the industry, you do.”

Debellis joins KB+P after 13 years at Berlin, where he worked on accounts such as Coca-Cola, General Motors and Silk Soy Milk.

He becomes the 11th partner at the New York shop, which has 72 creatives. He reports to Kirshenbaum. Debellis is currently on sabbatical and will start on May 15.

While his new duties are still being formulated, he is expected to work on Mohegan Sun and Wendy’s, as well as contribute to new business pitches.

Debellis said he would work, “Wherever they need help, or wherever I can add value.”

The Toronto native began his career at Saatchi & Saatchi Compton Hayhurst as a copywriter. He then moved to agencies such as Ammirati, Wieden + Kennedy and TBWA\Chiat\Day.

He said that working in the Philadelphia office of Wieden from 1993-95 changed his views on advertising. “That’s where I lost my naivete. Just because I worked at Wieden, I thought everything would be great. It was lot more difficult than that,” he said. “It was one of those places where I didn’t produce a lot of work, but I learned more than I produced.”

Debellis, 43, has won a clutch of awards at the Effies, Clios, Cannes and The One Show.

“Creatives are awful, most of the time we don’t like anything we do. When I look at my work, I see all the things that I could have done better,” Debellis said. “Hopefully my proudest work is still ahead of me.”
