JWT’s Simonton to Be TG Madison’s COO

ATLANTA TG Madison has hired Mark Simonton as chief operating officer, a new position effective Jan. 9, the agency said.

Simonton, 48, left WPP Group’s JWT here, where he was a senior partner and director of client services, to join the independent Atlanta shop. He will manage the daily operations of the agency, allowing co-founders Lauren Genkinger and Joanne Truffleman to devote more time to business development. He also will be chairman of TGM’s executive committee.

“Mark brings a wealth of experience to the agency,” Genkinger said. “His background in account management will translate well in meeting the needs of existing and future clients, while his varied experience at JWT will help him run the day-to-day operations of TGM.”

During his 21 years at JWT Atlanta, Simonton directed accounts including Orkin Pest Control, Cendiant, Norfolk Southern and Dunlop Slazenger Group Americas. In addition to his account management responsibilities, he supervised JWT’s public relations and new business development.

Simonton began his career at Compton Advertising in New York and worked at the former Atlanta agencies Liller Neal and McDonald & Little. Genkinger said she met Simonton when they both worked at the latter.

“I told him at the time that we would work together again,” she said. “We’ve stayed in touch over the years and now the time was right.”
