JWT’s Corry Leaving Agency

NEW YORK — Pat Corry, director of client and business development at J. Walter Thompson in New York, is leaving the agency to assume a marketing role at Merrill Lynch, a JWT client, the agency confirmed.

Corry, a former BBDO account executive who joined JWT in 1999, is becoming director of marketing in Merrill’s private wealth management group in Princeton, N.J. The position is new.

“It’s a bit of a new world,” said Corry, who has never worked on the client side before, “and it’s one that I’m looking forward to.”

Before being promoted to director of client and business development last spring, Corry, 38, helped manage two accounts: Merrill and Unilever–the largest client in terms of billings in New York. His previous title was director of Unilever North America. “I love Thompson,” said Corry. “I think this is a fantastic agency.”

Agency president Bob Jeffrey announced the departure in an email to his staff on Tuesday. Jeffrey is said to be eyeing several candidates to fill Corry’s post.
