LONDON JWT today confirmed that Guy Hayward, a co-founder of Amsterdam, the Netherlands-based 180, is joining the WPP Group network as chief executive in the U.K.
Hayward (pictured) got his start in the business in 1987 at JWT, where he spent about six years working as an account director in the agency’s London and Barcelona offices. He moved to WCRS and then to Wieden + Kennedy, where he worked on Nike for three years. Along with former Wieden Nike colleagues Alex Melvin and Chris Mendola, Hayward was a founder of 180, which was originally formed in 1998 to work for Nike rival Adidas. The agency, which sold a majority stake to Omnicom in 2006, also works for marketers like Sony and Glenfiddich.
Hayward fills a vacancy created early this year after Alison Burns, JWT’s former U.K. CEO, moved to the U.S. to become global client services director at JWT in New York. In January, JWT named Joe Petyan and Tom Vick to the new positions of joint managing directors and they have had oversight of the agency in the interim.

Hayward will oversee and help to develop the group’s integrated proposition. “Our business has entered a totally new era and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help lead JWT into this,” he said in a statement.
