JWT Opts To Stay In Detroit

J. Walter Thompson announced plans last week to stay in its present office space in downtown Detroit.
The agency, which services Ford Motor Co.’s Ford division, had considered moving its 550 employees in order to be closer to the Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., about 10 miles away, said JWT president Peter Schweitzer. Ford marketing and advertising personnel will relocate to Dearborn this year as the result of General Motors’ purchase of the Renaissance Center, where Ford offices are currently housed.
Ford encouraged the division to stay in Detroit, an option that was backed by mayor Dennis Archer and facilitated by the cooperation of the owners/developers of the building that houses JWT’s current offices, Schweitzer said. –Tanya Gazdik
