JWT Chicago’s Heffernan Exits

CHICAGO — J. Walter Thompson Chicago president Brian Heffernan has resigned after four years running the office, an agency representative said.

Bob Jeffrey, JWT’s president of North America, will take over Heffernan’s Chicago post until a replacement is found, the representative said. Heffernan’s departure is not a great surprise and the agency has been looking for someone else to run the office for several weeks, sources said.

The office has run into trouble with two major clients recently. Uneven work for Miller Genuine Draft led Miller Brewing to hold a roster shootout, and last month creative duties on the brand were split with sister shop Ogilvy & Mather, New York. The agency also has lost work with its cornerstone Kraft Foods business.

Heffernan, 47, joined JWT in Detroit in 1985. He later moved to the Chicago office in 1992 and has served as president since 1998.
