JohnsonSheen Tops Nerve for Portland Bank

LOS ANGELES JohnsonSheen has been selected to handle advertising for Albina Community Bank, the agency said.

The shop won the account following a review. The client interviewed eight agencies before narrowing the search to JohnsonSheen and Nerve, both in Portland, Ore., said JohnsonSheen president Pat Johnson.

Billings were undisclosed but are estimated at under $1 million. JohnsonSheen will handle all brand development for the client, including strategic planning, creative and media placement.

JohnsonSheen’s first work for the client is expected to break in the fall. It will look more like cause marketing than traditional marketing because of the bank’s community story, Johnson said.

While the Portland-based bank currently has two branches, it is planning to expand to approximately a dozen locations within the next few years, which led to its agency search, Johnson said.

Founded in 1995, Albina is one of 50 community development banks in the U.S. and the only one in Oregon. Owned by the Northeast Portland Community Development Trust and individual local shareholders, Albina is attempting to accelerate redevelopment in North and Northeast Portland by serving low- and middle-class families and small business owners.
