Citing increases in BET viewership, among other non-broadcast programming, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, president of the Rainbow/Push Coalition, called Nielsen Media Research’s local people meter service service “a step in the right direction” in an open letter to members last week. In April, several groups banded together under the organization Don’t Count Us Out, claiming the service undercounts minorities. Adweek Magazines parent VNU owns Nielsen.
