In an effort to expand Adweek Project Isaac’s search for great inventive spirit, we partnered with KBS+ to create a new category that would welcome submissions from students. So with KBS+ as sponsor, Isaac+ was born. The program judged 37 student submissions and selected an overall winner who would fully build out his/her concept in KBS+’s in-house maker lab in the agency’s New York headquarters over the summer months. The KBS+ judges named The Tree of Life the winning project. Created by Selena Davant, 26, and Alan Shpakovski, 25, both students at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where they both are completing master’s degrees in Advertising Art Direction, the tree is a community installation that blends technology, art, science, sustainability and biomimicry. Each leaf on the tree is a solar cell that turns into a power station for people to charge their mobile devices, access free WiFi and connect socially—all in an effort to make green energy more omnipresent in everyday life.
