Initiative Names Chief Strategist

NEW YORK Interpublic Group’s Initiative Worldwide said it tapped Mike Tunnicliffe for the newly created position of North American chief strategic officer.

Tunnicliffe, a 25-year media industry veteran, will report to Initiative Worldwide chief executive Alec Gerster and oversee U.S. business development strategy. He has been an evp in the company’s London office, guiding work for clients in 38 markets with combined billings in excess of $1.5 billion. Tunnicliffe, 44, will relocate to New York. He has been with Initiative for the past seven years.

“We have had tremendous success in leveraging our global talent pool in areas such as econometrics, media modeling and research,” said Gerster. “By appointing Mike to this new post, we are continuing this trend at a senior level in an important area.”

“In my new role I will have the ability to connect the right people in the right places … to ensure that we are delivering the best of the best from our network,” Tunnicliffe said in a statement. “This is absolutely crucial for the U.S. market, where we believe that consumer sentiment and trends are a core strength of our operation.”
