Mayor’s Jewelers Is Close to a Decision
WASHINGTON, D.C.–Coral Gables, Fla.-based Mayor’s Jewelers will decide on its new agency this week, marketing officials for the client said. Five undisclosed agencies will give creative presentations. Harris Drury Cohen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., parted ways with the jewelry store last month. Sources put the account in the $2-3 million range, although Stan Harris, principal of HDC, said that declining billings was one of the causes of the split. The sources also said that Mayor’s has been farming out creative to other shops for some time.

Campbell Defends D.C. Airport Account
WASHINGTON, D.C.–The Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority has issued a request for proposal to area advertising agencies for a one-year contract and two one-year options to renew. Sources close to the process placed the budget at about $1 million. The Campbell Group in Baltimore, which has handled the account for the past three years, is participating in the mandatory review process, the agency confirmed. A pre-proposal conference was slated for the morning of Monday, July 28.

Miss. Gulf Coast Tourism Goes to Godwin
ATLANTA–Its speculative creative work won GodwinGroup in Jackson, Miss., the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau’s $2 million advertising account. GodwinGroup defeated five competitors by adding the theme “Come out and play” as a prefix to the bureau’s current “Playground of the South” consumer tagline and to its “Where the new South meets” meetings tag. A new campaign will break in late 1997 or early 1998.

3 Shops Emerge in Jefferson-Pilot’s Search
NEW YORK–Jefferson-Pilot, the Greensboro, N.C.-based insurance company, has narrowed its search for a full-service agency to three shops: incumbent Trone Advertising in Greensboro, N.C., McCann-Erickson in Atlanta and Merkley Newman Harty in New York, sources said. Agencies referred queries to the client, who did not return Adweek’s calls. Competitive Media Reporting tracked Jefferson-Pilot’s ad spending at around $2 million.

CD Moves From Dallas to Hilton Head
ATLANTA–Neil Scanlan, formerly creative director on Irving, Texas-based Temerlin McClain’s American Airlines and Terminix accounts, was signed by Anderson Communications Group in Hilton Head Island, S.C., as executive vice president and creative director.
