Richards Gets Hyundai Dealer Accounts

DALLAS—Hyundai Motor America’s four dealer advertising associations have hired The Richards Group for creative on their respective ad accounts, the Dallas agency said. Total billings are estimated at $200 million. Media remains with Carat in Los Angeles. The move had been expected after Hyundai dealers notified the incumbent, Bates USA West in Irvine, Calif., that they would be terminating the relationship [Ad week, June 10]. Richards was awarded Hyundai’s corporate creative account in May.

Calif. Lottery Puts Award Approval on Hold

LOS ANGELES—The California Lottery commission postponed until Sept. 10 a vote on whether Foote, Cone & Belding should be granted its five-year, $125 million ad account. The San Francisco shop was named the winner on July 31, pending approval from the commission. A lottery representative said the state will now review a protest filed last week by DDB, Los Angeles. Sources said that protest involves information about media costs provided by FCB and its partner in the pitch, Initiative Media in Los Angeles [Adweek, Aug. 12]. FCB San Francisco president Ian Beavis said the shop has been asked to provide additional information to the lottery prior to the September meeting. DDB officials declined to comment.

Suissa Miller Cut From Heinz Pet-Food Review

NEW YORK—H.J. Heinz Co. has narrowed its search for an ad agency to handle $10-15 million in pet-food brands to three shops: Element 79 in Chicago, Doner in Southfield, Mich., and Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, sources said. Four other shops did not advance: Suissa Miller in Los Angeles, Arnold McGrath in New York, The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in New York, according to sources. The brands in play include 9 Lives and Kibbles ‘n Bits. New York consultancy Roth Associates is managing the search.

Denny’s Taps Cruz/kravetz for Hispanic Work

LOS ANGELES—Cruz/kravetz:Ideas has won Hispanic ad duties for Denny’s, sources said. The Los Angeles shop bested GlobalHue of San Antonio. The incumbent was Publicis Sanchez & Levitan, Dallas. The review was led by The Rojek Cutcher Group in Cleveland. Both the winning agency and the consultant declined to comment. Representatives for the Spartanburg, S.C., restaurant chain did not return calls. Late last month, Denny’s awarded general-market duties on its $50 million ad account to Publicis in Mid America in Dallas [Adweek, July 29].

Butler Wins $10 Mil. Tom Clancy Games Biz

LOS ANGELES—Butler, Shine & Stern has been selected to handle Ubi Soft Entertainment’s $10 million Tom Clancy videogame account. Work will include launching four Tom Clancy-branded reality-based adventure games, including Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, The Sum of All Fears and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. The Sausalito, Calif., shop is expected to launch TV and print advertising in the fourth quarter.
