Advanced Micro Devices Trims to 3

LOS ANGELES—Advanced Micro Devices has named three finalists in the review for its $25-30 million consolidated global account, according to Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., which is managing the review. They are: San Francisco agencies McCann-Erickson and Young & Rubicam, and LB Works in Chicago. Shops not advancing included D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in Los Angeles, DDB in San Francisco and Lowe in New York. Domestic advertising for the Sunnyvale, Calif., microprocessor manufacturer has been handled by Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston. Publicis in London has worked on the European account. A decision is due in early March.

24 Hour Fitness Hires Direct Partners

LOS ANGELES—24 Hour Fitness said it has hired Omnicom Group’s Direct Partners to handle creative on its $25 million account. The Marina del Rey, Calif., direct marketing agency bested four other California finalists: Attik in San Francisco, Brainsaw in Santa Ana, Donat Wald in Santa Monica and Suissa Miller in Los Angeles, said client representative Shannon May. Creative had been at Grey in San Francisco, which retains media duties.

Smiley to Leave TBWA\C\D

SAN FRANCISCO—Rob Smiley, a creative director at TBWA\Chiat\Day here, is leaving, sources said. Sources said the loss of the $60 million Levi’s account was not a factor. Smiley will stay for another month, finishing work for an undisclosed client. He worked on campaigns for former clients and the Game Show Network. Smiley will relocate New York, but has not accepted another ad position, according to sources.

Blue Shield of California Names Finalists

SAN FRANCISCO—Blue Shield of California selected three finalists to contend for its $4-6 million account, the client confirmed. The agencies are Foote, Cone & Belding, Hill, Holliday and Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG West, all in San Francisco. The account was formerly at McCann-Erickson, San Francisco, which declined to defend. A decision is expected by March.

TargetMarket Interactive Opens in Atlanta

ATLANTA—TargetMarket Interactive has chosen Tony Gauthier to spearhead its move into the South. TMI, a Los Angeles agency that specializes in business-to-business marketing, opens in Atlanta this month. It hopes to capitalize on the void created by the dissolution of e-commerce giants like iXL and marchFirst. Gauthier was previously director of business development at e-commerce consultancy Answerthink’s Southeast office.

Group Health Cooperative Launches Review

SAN FRANCISCO—Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound has launched a review for its ad account, a representative at the Seattle nonprofit managed healthcare group confirmed. Seven to 10 undisclosed Northwest agencies are still in the pitch for the estimated $1 million business. The account was formerly handled by Grady Britton in Portland, Ore. A decision is expected at the end of February.
