Montemayor Names New Business Head

DALLAS—Montemayor y Asociados has recruited former client Zifa Esparza to serve as senior vice president and director of account development. Esparza joins the San Antonio advertising agency from Taco Cabana, where she was senior director of marketing. “We expect her to move the needle of new business acquisition for Montemayor,” said agency president and chief executive officer Carlos Montemayor. The Hispanic marketing agency became part of the Young & Rubicam network earlier this year.

Temerlin Claims Adams’ Interactive Work

DALLAS—The interactive marketing group ofTemerlin McClain has been awarded Web site development, hosting and management responsibilities for Adams Golf. The Irving, Texas-based agency already handles advertising for the golf club marketer. “By consolidating their marketing efforts across traditional and online [media], Adams Golf will be able to more effectively deliver their message,” said James Hering, director of interactive marketing at Temerlin. The budget for the new account was not disclosed.

Taylor West Adds PR, Senior Staff

DALLAS—Taylor West Advertising has added public relations capabilities to its list of in-house services. At the same time, the agency has appointed Kelly Morris, formerly vice president of public relations at Atkins/Lord + Lasker, to lead the new group. The $11 million San Antonio agency has made several other senior-level hires. Personnel appointments include senior creative director Tom Norman and creative director Lisa Breshears, both also formerly of Atkins, and senior account executive Suzy Joiner Heatly, most recently with First USA, a division of Bank One.

Longtime Leo Burnett Creative Dies

CHICAGO—Don Tennant, who created Tony the Tiger and well-known campaigns for clients including Pillsbury and Philip Morris during 20 years at Leo Burnett, died in Los Angeles on Dec. 8 of heart failure at 79. Tennant retired from Burnett in 1970 and later had his own agency in Chicago.

End-of-Year Success for Hill, Holliday

SAN FRANCISCO—Hill, Holliday has gained threenew clients in the past two months: Red Roof Inns,Veritas Software and Togo’s Restaurants. Each account is worth more than $10 million. The acquisitions come just months after the Boston-based agency dropped the GMO agency name from its shingle and moved to smaller offices in San Francisco.

Magellan Labs Taps FWV PubliCom

ATLANTA—FWV PubliCom’s Richard French & Associates and sister shop West & Vaughan have added MagellanLaboratories to their client roster. Annual billings are undisclosed. The Raleigh, N.C., public relations and advertising agencies merged with Wisse, Hollmann & Co. earlier this year. Magellan, a pharmaceutical testing and development laboratory, is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
