T.G.I. Friday’s in Review
DALLAS—Casual-dining restaurant chain T.G.I. Friday’s has put its $40 million account in review. Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., has been retained to conduct a national search, which will include Dallas incumbent Publicis in Mid-America. Friday’s is also based in Dallas. The account includes creative and media. SRI principal Catherine Bension said no other agencies have been contacted yet; a decision is expected by year’s end. Tom Koenigsberg, vp of marketing, is managing the review on the client side.
TBWA\C\D, Kirshenbaum Trim Staff
LOS ANGELES—TBWA\Chiat\Day has laid off 2-3 percent of staff at its three U.S. offices, a company representative confirmed. He declined to give a specific number of layoffs. The reductions are a response to “the economic state of the industry,” the representative said, adding that they are not related to any specific account. The agency currently employs approximately 470 staffers in Playa del Rey, Calif., 200 in New York and 90 in San Francisco. Separately, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in San Francisco laid off 10 employees, leaving it with a staff of 50, said Nigel Carr, managing partner and general manager. The cuts come a week after the shop lost the $30 million PeopleSoft account to BBDO in New York.
Adobe Decision Looms
SAN FRANCISCO—Adobe Systems is expected to award its $20 million account in the first week of November. Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif., and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco are the contenders. Black Rocket/Euro RSCG withdrew from the pitch this month. Bob Ellis, director of client services at Black Rocket, said the shop had “different visions” for the brand than the client did.
Adlink Launches Review
LOS ANGELES—Adlink is conducting a search for an ad agency. The Los Angeles-based digital-interconnect company has worked with brand design firm Vigon/Ellis in Studio City, Calif., for four years but now wants a full-service shop. Billings are undisclosed.
Top Warner Bros. Marketer to Step Down
LOS ANGELES—Warner Bros. evp of marketing and planning Sandy Reisenbach will step away from his responsibilities at the end of the year and serve as a consultant to the company. Reisenbach joined Warner Bros. in 1979 and has overseen worldwide marketing for the main company as well as Warner Bros. Family Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, kids’ programming and marketing and theme parks.
L.A. Ad Community Mourns Perkal, Cunningham
LOS ANGELES—Rudy Perkal, former svp/consumer group at BGM/SMJ, died Oct. 14. The cause was lung cancer. Perkal, who was 74, established Perkal Adcomm in Santa Monica, Calif., earlier this year. He was well known in particular for his work in the medical arena. Dottie Cunningham, wife of Don Cunningham of the former Cunningham, Root & Craig, also died Oct. 14 following a bout with cancer.
