Cable Company Starts Review

ATLANTA—Charter Communications is in the early stages of a review for its estimated $4 million account, a company representative said. The St. Louis-based cable company is thought to have enlisted The Bedford Group/Red Dragon in Atlanta to assist in the search. The Atlanta consultant recently steered a review for Charter’s joint venture partner Cox Communications. Simmons Durham in St. Louis is Charter’s current agency.

Ogilvy Touts BP Connect Interactive Stations

CHICAGO—Ogilvy & Mather here touts BP’s interactive gas stations in a TV campaign breaking today in Indiana, the company said. The company’s BP Connect stations carry high-end items and feature screens at the pump for logging on to the Internet [Adweek, Feb. 5]. The campaign is expected roll out globally as the stations open in other markets.

Minn. Tourism Reviews $3 Mil. Account

CHICAGO—The Minnesota Office of Tourism is reviewing its $3 million ad account. John Edman, the state’s tourism director, said the office is looking for ways to “refresh” its current “Take home a story” campaign, developed by 16-year incumbent Carmichael Lynch. CL has opted not to participate.

Bostock Steps Down as Bcom3 Chairman

CHICAGO—Bcom3 Chairman Roy Bostock has stepped down, his title and duties taken over by CEO Roger Haupt. Bostock, 60, said his retirement was in the works when the MacManus Group and the Leo Group merged to form Bcom3 last March. Bostock will remain on Bcom3’s board and will continue to consult on major clients.

Doner Breaks Owens Corning Campaign

DETROIT—Doner, Southfield, Mich., breaks its first work for Owens Corning on Tuesday in a campaign that positions the building materials and composite systems company as a provider of solutions, rather than just a product manufacturer. The campaign introduces a new tagline, “Owens Corning. We know homes.”

AT&T Wireless Names Finalists

NEW YORK—AT&T Wireless named finalists for its $400 million account, sources said. Continuing in the review are incumbent FCB in New York, Fallon Minneapolis, Ogilvy & Mather, New York, and TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Ray, Calif., sources said. Cut were Leo Burnett in Chicago and Saatchi & Saatchi, New York.

DaimlerChrysler Names Marketing Execs

DETROIT—DaimlerChrysler named Jeffrey Bell, Ford Motor Co.’s former director of retail marketing and online business, its new vice president for marketing communications. The new position was created to ensure consistent marketing messages. Bell will report to George Murphy, senior vice president/global brand marketing.
