Decision Imminent on Energizer
LOS ANGELES—A decision on the possible consolidation of the $45 million Energizer account could come this week, sources said. TBWA\Chiat\Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., is lead shop for the brand; DDB, Chicago, handles the e2 titanium battery. Sources said the client may test creative from both shops before making a decision. Energizer, the No. 2 battery in the U.S. behind Duracell, is best known for TBWA\C\D’s pink rabbit ad icon.
Juniper Review Down to 2
SAN FRANCISCO—The review for the $10-15 million Juniper business is down to two finalists following Arnold Ingalls Moranville’s withdrawal due to a conflict. Saatchi & Saatchi and a.k.a. Euro RSCG, both in San Francisco, will hear a decision by late April, sources said. Juniper produces and sells high-end routers for the Internet.
SicolaMartin Sells to Y&R
DALLAS—High-tech agency SicolaMartin last week agreed to be purchased by WPP Group’s Y&R Advertising. Austin, Texas-based SicolaMartin will keep its name and act as a wholly owned subsidiary of Y&R. Founded by president/CEO Tom Sicola and executive creative director Steve Martin, the 15-year-old agency claimed billings last year rose 75 percent to $113 million. The contract with Y&R allows SicolaMartin to continue working with DDB, Dallas, on their joint $40 million Novell account.
El Torito Launches Agency Search
LOS ANGELES—El Torito Restaurants has put its ad account in review. Impiric, Irvine, Calif., previously handled it. The search is being led by Mike Agate of Select Resources International in Los Angeles. The budget is undisclosed. El Torito, which was sold to Acapulco Acquisition Corp. last June, has cut its ad spending severely of late, per Competitive Media Reporting. The account was estimated at $5-6 million when it was awarded to Grey in 1997. A finalist list is expected within two weeks.
Lens Express Zeroes In on Publicis Dialog
LOS ANGELES—Lens Express, a direct marketer of contact lenses, tapped Publicis Dialog in Salt Lake City for its $5 million ad and direct marketing account. Work for the Deerfield Beach, Fla., client includes creative, media planning and buying and other duties. A. Eicoff & Co., Chicago, had worked on the account for 10 years, using the tagline “America’s #1 source for vision care.” Publicis last week launched a national TV spot for the client, which is a unit of Strategic Optical Holdings.
Big Bang Wins Pike Place, Unveils Brooks Ads
LOS ANGELES—Big Bang Idea Engineering has been tapped for branding work by Seattle’s Pike Place Market, which houses about 600 businesses. Finalists for the account, which has a budget of $350,000, included Cole & Weber/Red Cell, Think New Ideas, Werkhaus Creative Communications and, pitching jointly, Belyea and Worker Bees, all in Seattle, said Andrew Hanson-Krueger, client marketing director. Dapper & Associates, Seattle, previously handled. Work will launch this summer. Separately, Big Bang is breaking ads for athletic apparel company Brooks tagged “Run happy.”
