Omnicom Merges BDDP Into TBWA
NEW YORK – Omnicom Group has folded BDDP Worldwide into TBWA International under the name TBWA Worldwide [Adweek, April 13]. TBWA co-founder Bill Tragos remains chairman, while Michael Greenlees, chief executive of BDDP parent GGT Group, was named president and chief executive officer. Lee Clow, chairman of TBWA Chiat/Day and chief creative officer of TBWA International, was named chief creative officer worldwide, while Bob Kuperman, president and chief executive of TBWA Chiat/Day North America, takes the new post of president and chief executive of the Americas. Omnicom president and chief executive John Wren, who led the merger talks, said the group “brings together some of the most talented people in the advertising industry today.”

Goodby Again Named Top Agency at Clio Awards
NEW YORK – Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, was named Agency of the Year for the second straight time at the 1998 Clio Awards in New York last week on the strength of its Nike and Budweiser work. Goodby won four gold, seven silver and 11 bronze Clio statues, edging out runner-up Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis. Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, and Leo Burnett, London, were honored with Grand Clios in TV and print, respectively – Cliff Freeman for Fox Network’s National Hockey League advertising, and Burnett for Mercedes Benz work. BBDO Worldwide scored the highest among worldwide networks. DDB Needham Worldwide and TBWA International tied for second place.

Omnicom Promotes Watson, Hires Redditt
NEW YORK – John Wren, president and chief executive officer of Omnicom Group here, has named Tom Watson and Bruce Redditt to newly created executive vice president posts. Watson, vice chairman of Omnicom’s Diversified Agency Services (DAS) unit, will be responsible for identifying “cross-divisional” opportunities between Omnicom’s advertising agency networks and its marketing services and specialty companies. Redditt, who comes from Sony Pictures Entertainment in Los Angeles, will be responsible for further developing Omnicom’s new media businesses, including the Communicade division.

FCB to Launch World Golf Tour
CHICAGO – The PGA Tours International Federation in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., selected Foote, Cone & Belding here to handle the $4 million launch of its World Golf Championships tour in 1999. FCB’s Impact Communications Group will handle promotions, while its sports marketing unit in San Francisco will oversee sponsorships and event marketing.

TBWA C/D, DGWB Drop Out of Qualcomm Review
LOS ANGELES – TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif., and incumbent DGWB, Irvine, Calif., have both dropped out of the review for Qualcomm’s estimated $20 million account. Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, and Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore., are the remaining contenders. A decision is expected in June.
