Mccarthy To Head Fila Account At Burnett
CHICAGO–Former Nike ad executive Joe McCarthy will head the team handling the $15-20 million Fila U.S.A. account, which was awarded to Leo Burnett last week. McCarthy, a consultant to the agency since last fall, continues in that capacity. Sparks, Md.-based Fila cited as a reason for its choice Burnett’s creative recommendation that it leverage its Italian heritage in advertising. Fila said it will discontinue its tagline, “Change the game.” Other finalists for the account were W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich.; Toth Design & Advertising, Concord, Mass.; and Fallon McElligott and Cliff Freeman and Partners, both New York. Arnell Group Brand Consulting, New York, resigned the account in March.

FCB Defending Blue Cross in Florida
ATLANTA–Four shops have made the final round in the review for the $8-12 million Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida business, according to a consultant working with the Jacksonville, Fla.-based client. The finalists are incumbent Foote, Cone & Belding in Chicago, BBDO South in Atlanta (pitching with Rapp Collins Worldwide in Irving, Texas), Earle Palmer Brown of Bethesda, Md., and Grey Direct in New York. The four will make final presentations in early August, with a decision expected by month’s end. David Pizzo, the client’s vice president of advertising and marketing communications, did not return phone calls last week.

Foley Sackett Wins Minnesota Lottery
CHICAGO–The Minnesota Lottery selected Foley Sackett in Minneapolis to handle its $9 million advertising account. “They were consistently on message and had a solid, strategic way of thinking,” said lottery director George Andersen. Foley Sackett bested Minneapolis agencies Colle & McVoy and Valentine-McCormick-Ligibel, as well as Bernstein-Rein in Kansas City, Mo., and Marcus Advertising in Cleveland (agency for the Ohio Lottery) for the account. Incumbent Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis, declined to participate in the review.

Tatham, SFM Team for Local Buys
CHICAGO–Euro RSCG Tatham here and SFM Media in New York, both units of Havas Advertising Group, are jointly forming a local broadcast buying operation in Chicago. It will handle Tatham’s local broadcast buys while serving as a regional buying office for SFM. Tatham continues to handle all planning and network buying for its clients.

Allied Domecq Reviews Canadian Club
CHICAGO–Allied Domecq said it is conducting a closed review for creative duties on its Canadian Club blended whisky brand. Sources said four or five agencies have been asked to send creative samples to the company, based in Southfield, Mich., for the estimated $5-6 million account. Incumbent DDB Needham in New York has declined to participate, sources said. Media buying will remain with Hudson Media Group in New York, the client said.
