“Richards Relaunches Encore Movies
NEW YORK-Encore Media Group is relaunching its core service Encore as a first-run premium movie channel with a $20 million national branding campaign, via The Richards Group in Dallas. The new Encore will bow today with the tagline, “A great movie every night-guaranteed!” The effort is backed by a $2.3 billion investment in movie rights, said EMG chairman and chief executive John Sie in announcing the network’s revamp. The branding push will run on 16 national cable networks, including USA, TNT, TBS and The Discovery Channel. It will also air on national radio outlets such as Westwood One and ABC Radio.

DALLAS-Monkeymedia in Austin, Texas and Dallas-based Eisenberg & Associates each received Clio statues last week at the 40th annual Clio Awards in New York. Monkeymedia was honored with a silver Clio for its self-promotion entry in the Internet advertising category. Eisenberg won a bronze award for its design of Daisytek’s 1998 annual report.
“Big Red Selects Ackerman McQueen
DALLAS-Big Red, a soft drink company located in Waco, Texas, has hired the Dallas office of Ackerman McQueen for a test market project that could lead to future branding assignments, including television. The account will be headed by Ackerman McQueen managing director David Lipson.
“Bromley Forms PR Joint Venture
DALLAS-Bromley Aguilar & Associates in San Antonio has established a public relations joint venture with New York-based Manning Selvage & Lee. The Bromley/MS&L effort, to be headed by managing director Deborah Charnes Vallejo, will provide global public relations support for Bromley clients in categories like healthcare, technology, finance and consumer marketing. Both Bromley and Manning are divisions of The MacManus Group.
“Riney Hires GSD&M’s Shoval for Sprint
SAN FRANCISCO-Publicis & Hal Riney has recruited Alon Shoval from GSD&M, Austin, Texas, as vice president and creative director on the Sprint PCS account. Shoval was group creative director on GSD&M’s $250 million Southwestern Bell business. Riney this week breaks its first national TV, radio and print campaign for Sprint PCS.
“Spurs Recruit Creative Civilization
DALLAS-Creative Civilization, the San Antonio ad agency formed earlier this year by Al Aguilar, has been signed by the San Antonio Spurs. The shop’s initial work, tagged “Go Spurs go,” is already airing for the National Basketball Association franchise’s playoff run. Aguilar previously worked on assignments for the team when he was chief creative officer and partner at Bromley, Aguilar & Associates, also San Antonio.
