LOS ANGELES–Digital Entertainment Network, which develops original youth culture programming and e-commerce opportunities on the Internet, has awarded its global integrated marketing account to TBWA/Chiat/Day. Billings were undisclosed, but officials at DEN, Santa Monica, Calif., said “significant” ad spending will back its upcoming launch. The Playa del Rey, Calif., shop won the account following a review of undisclosed agencies. Y&R Breaks Covad Communications Effort
SAN FRANCISCO–Young & Rubicam introduced the first advertising for Covad Communications, a provider of DSL Internet access. The San Francisco agency’s $8-10 million campaign broke last week in four selected markets and consists of humorous TV, radio and print ads aimed at home and small-business computer users. The tagline is, “The Internet as it should be.”
Doner Picks Up IntelliFutures Account
LOS ANGELES–Internet futures and options trading startup IntelliFutures selected Doner as agency of record. The Aliso Viejo, Calif., client plans to launch its service in early 2000. The estimated $10-15 million account will be handled out of Doner’s Newport Beach, Calif., office.
Asher Creates Suzuki Sponsorship Ads
DETROIT–In the initial year of its three-year Heisman Trophy sponsorship, Suzuki is using the sports affiliation to Americanize the car brand and push its Grand Vitara sport utility vehicle. National ads from Asher & Partners, Los Angeles, will run across Time Warner properties.

Publicis & Hal Riney senior vice president and director of account planning Justin Holloway resigned his position last week to join Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston, as executive vice president. Holloway has worked at San Francisco’s Riney for five years and plans to start his new job in November. … Alan May joined MediaCom, San Francisco, in the new position of senior vice president, managing director. He will primarily handle the $100 million Oracle Corp. account. May most recently was media director at Anderson & Lembke, San Francisco, where he handled Microsoft. … David Bryman, laid off from Western Initiative Media in a restructuring in August, has landed at Delta Media, Big River, Calif., as director of new business development. He will work out of Los Angeles. Bryman spent two decades as a senior vice president of Western, Los Angeles. For the past 12 years he was director of Western Outdoor, the media management company’s outdoor unit. … Young & Rubicam has tapped Aetna U.S. Healthcare executive David Murphy to succeed John Hirschboeck as president of the agency and managing director of the Lincoln-Mercury account. Murphy will join the Irvine, Calif., shop at the end of October.
