Citgo Petroleum Begins Agency Search
DALLAS–Citgo Petroleum, Tulsa, Okla., last week issued a request for proposals to undisclosed agencies for its estimated $10 million-plus national account. Client media director Julie Anderson said duties will include developing Citgo’s first consumer-targeted positioning for 14,000 U.S. retail locations. A search team headed by Citgo ad manager Donald Rucks will look at agencies primarily in the Southwest and Midwest, but Anderson said the evaluation is national in scope. Media First International, New York, is responsible for media. Creative work has been handled on a freelance basis since the client split with Bozell Worldwide in Chicago.
Richards to Launch Greyhound Campaign
DALLAS–The Richards Group here this month will launch a new campaign for Greyhound Lines that drops the “Go Greyhound and leave the driving to us” tagline, revived in 1995 ads from Ogilvy & Mather, Houston. Richards, which added creative chores to its media buying assignments for Greyhound last year, bows the new tag, “Where can we take you?” in a new round of television, radio and print ads for the Dallas-based bus line. The new ad series coincides with a review for the account.
Cryovac Passes on Publicis/Bloom
ATLANTA–Cryovac, maker of plastic packaging in Duncan, S.C., last week assigned its $8 million global trade account to Fitzgerald & Co. here. In the review’s final round, Fitzgerald bested Young & Rubicam in Miami, Publicis/Bloom in Dallas and incumbent Newman, Saylor & Gregory in Columbia, S.C.
Needham Gives Sea World a New Tune
CHICAGO–A TV spot from DDB Needham Chicago, employing the INXS song “New Sensation” to tout Sea World “adventure parks,” broke last week. Sea World, which is owned by Busch Entertainment Corp. in St. Louis and has sites in Ohio, Texas, Florida and California, also plans regional versions of the ad campaign. GSD&M in Austin, Texas, handles TV for the San Antonio and San Diego Sea World locations, while print and radio is done by Busch Creative Services.
Mithoff Reorganizes Hispanic Operation
DALLAS–Mithoff Advertising, El Paso, Texas, is integrating Hispanic marketing division Mithoff-Lopez Hispanic Communications into the operations of the parent company. Mithoff-Lopez principal Joe Lopez is leaving to open his new agency, Lopez Advertising.
