Houston Helm Adds Hunt-Wesson Work
LOS ANGELES–Houston Helm & Co. here has picked up an additional $5-10 million Hunt Foods branding assignment from Fullerton, Calif.-based client Hunt-Wesson. The award comes after a review that included the brand’s roster shops: Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; Berry Brown Advertising, Dallas; and TBWA Chiat/Day (formerly Ketchum Advertising), San Francisco. Houston Helm’s Hispanic division, Houston Helm Bermudez, has handled advertising for Hunt-Wesson’s Rosarita Mexican Foods division since last year.
Gates Swings for Callaway Golf
LOS ANGELES–Bill Gates has joined an elite group that counts Alice Cooper and golf pro John Daly among its members. The Microsoft chairman takes on the role of pitchman in a new TV commercial for Callaway Golf Co. The spot, produced by Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif., broke over the weekend.
Jeffrey Takes Helm at JWT in New York
NEW YORK–J. Walter Thompson hired Bob Jeffrey last week as president of its New York office. Jeffrey, previously managing director at Lowe & Partners/SMS in San Francisco, replaces Susan Gianinno.
New Tag on Levi’s Dockers
SAN FRANCISCO–Foote, Cone & Belding here breaks a new national TV campaign today for Levi Strauss & Co.’s Dockers brand. The effort features a new tagline, “One leg at a time,” replacing “Nice pants.” The ads are targeted primarily toward men and women aged 25-35.

Fox Family Channel has selected J. Walter Thompson’s Los Angeles office to handle media duties for its $12-15 million account, according to sources. Pittard Sullivan, Culver City, Calif., will develop graphics for the Los Angeles-based cable network’s relaunch later this year, sources said. . . Coco’s Restaurants, Irvine, Calif., awarded its estimated $10 million account to Campbell-Ewald’s Los Angeles office.
The other finalists in the review were Colby Effler & Partners and Duncan & Associates, both Santa Monica, Calif., and Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif. . . Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ in San Francisco has been chosen to handle a catalog design assignment for Eddie Bauer. There was no review. The San Francisco office of Lowe & Partners/SMS is the lead agency for the Redmond, Wash.-based apparel company. . . Imall, a Studio City, Calif.-based online shopping service, has selected Friedland Jacobs Communications in Burbank, Calif., to handle its estimated $3-5 million account, after a review of Southern California shops. . . McCann-Erickson’s Los Angeles office recently completed its first TV work for Bally’s Total Fitness.
