Y&R, Birds Eye Split; Client Launches Review
SAN FRANCISCO–Young & Rubicam and Birds Eye Frozen Vegetables have ended their five-year relationship due to “creative and strategic differences,” an agency representative said. Birds Eye, which is owned by Dean Foods Vegetable Co., Green Bay, Wis., is searching for a new agency to handle its $5 million account, sources said.
TBWA Chiat/Day Names New S.F. Managers
SAN FRANCISCO–TBWA Chiat/Day has named Carisa Bianchi and Peter Angelos as managing director and creative director, respectively, of its new office here, according to Bob Kuperman, president and chief executive of TBWA Chiat/Day North America. The Omnicom Group agency is returning to the market, effective today, by taking over the office of sister shop Ketchum Advertising, which has about 70 employees and roughly $40 million in billings from clients such as Orville Redenbacher Popcorn. Bianchi replaces Ketchum president Dianne Snedaker, who has left the shop; Angelos joins from Young & Rubicam, San Francisco, where he was creative director. Referring to principals Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners here, TBWA Chiat/Day chairman and chief creative officer Lee Clow said, “We do promise Jeff and Rich that we will not solicit any of their staff. If anything, we hope to bring more creative talent to the city.” The former Ketchum office is leading TBWA Chiat/Day’s pitch in the Levi Strauss & Co.’s $90 million brand review, which reaches final presentations next week.
Team One Honored at Automotive Ad Awards
DETROIT–Team One Advertising in El Segundo, Calif., garnered 35 awards–more than any other shop–for its Lexus work, at the the third annual International Automotive Advertising Awards held here last week. Lowe & Partners/SMS in New York won best of show for its “Falling in love” campaign for Mercedes-Benz.
Doner Automotive Executive Promoted
DETROIT–W.B. Doner & Co. has appointed Tim Blett to the newly created position of president of Doner Automotive. Blett’s role will be to oversee and direct account service operations for the agency’s new Mazda business throughout North America. He will work out of the shop’s new offices in Southern California. Blett previously headed up Doner’s dealer association automotive accounts in Southfield, Mich.

Kalis & Savage Advertising, Pacific Palisades, Calif., has won the estimated $1 million Southwest regional business of Starbucks Coffee Co., according to sources. The deal does not affect the Seattle-based client’s relationship with its national agency, BBDO West in Los Angeles.
