A Snyder, Havas Move Closer to Deal
BOSTON–Snyder Communications is expected to soon announce it has completed a deal to sell its assets, including Boston-based Arnold Communications, to Havas Advertising Group of Paris, sources said last week. Snyder is expected to fetch a premium price, above its current trading range of $20-22 a share. At press time Friday, Snyder was trading at 21 7/16.

A Digitas Releases Full-Year Financials
BOSTON–Digitas lost $38 million in its 1999 fiscal year ending Dec. 31 following a loss of nearly $45 million the previous year. The figures were detailed in an amended statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission as the Boston shop prepares to make an initial public offering. The agency disclosed that it intends to issue 9.3 million shares of common stock at $18-20 per share. Digitas revenues improved 53% from $122 million in 1998 to $187 million last year, the statement said.
A Top Marketers Change at Mullen Clients
BOSTON–Evelyn Somers has been appointed senior vice president of marketing at SmarterKids.com. She takes over for Al Noyes, who was promoted to executive vice president at the Lexington, Mass., firm. Somers was previously senior vice president of sales and marketing for Fidelity Investments’ High Net Worth Group. Somers has no plans to review SmarterKids.com’s relationship with roster shop Mullen, Wenham, Mass., she said. … Arthur Sweetser has left Gearon Hoffman here, where he had been executive vice president and client services director, to become senior vice president of marketing for Sperry & Hutchinson in Manchester, Mass. The 103-year-old company this quarter intends to relaunch its S&H Green Stamps program as online “greenpoints,” via Mullen.

A New Campaigns for Staples.com, Keds
BOSTON–Staples.com is launching its second national campaign today with help from three New York firms. The Framingham, Mass., company’s in-house ad agency is leading the effort, which will continue through the spring with creative by Cliff Freeman and Partners, guerrilla marketing by Eisnor Interactive and online banners by i-traffic. The tagline: “Hey, you don’t have to run out.” … Keds will break a new branding campaign in April created by Stride Rite Corp.’s roster shop Toth Brand Imaging. Stride Rite, Lexington, Mass., awarded the Keds account to the Concord, Mass.-based agency without a review last fall after splitting with Merkley Newman Harty, New York.
