LOS ANGELES–Jenny Craig has selected five agencies and one media buying service to pitch its $40 million account, in addition to incumbents Suissa Miller Advertising and Western International Media, both Los Angeles. The other contenders are: BBDO West and D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, both Los Angeles; Team One Advertising, El Segundo, Calif.; The Richards Group, Dallas; WongDoody, Santa Monica, Calif. and Seattle; and media buying company Carat ICG, Los Angeles.
Grey Selected to Handle LVMH Media Buying
NEW YORK–Grey Advertising here has been selected to buy media for nine brands of LVMH Mo’t Hennessy Louis Vuitton, an account worth $15-20 million. Other finalists: Carat MBS and TN Media here. “Grey presented itself as a team of strong strategic thinkers,” the client said. Deutsch retains Louis Vuitton’s media planning. Creative work originates from Paris, where the parent company is based.
Disney Channel Contacts Shops
LOS ANGELES–The Disney Channel, Burbank, Calif., is meeting with about 10 shops from around the country to discuss future creative projects for both the network and its recently launched Toon Disney channel. The client said that the meetings are “informal” and it traditionally uses a variety of shops for projects. Disney Channel handles creative duties in-house. Western International Media, Los Angeles, handles all media buying for Disney.
Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, has landed an undisclosed “broad-based” branding assignment from paper products marketer Georgia-Pacific Corp. The agency beat out Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis; The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.; and Merkley Newman Harty, New York, sources said. BBDO South, Atlanta, continues to work with the client Thrifty Car Rental, Tulsa, Okla., has placed its $6 million ad account in review, said sources. The incumbent, Ackerman McQueen in Oklahoma City, will not participate Charming Shoppes assigned creative and media duties for its $10 million Fashion Bug apparel chain to W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich. In November, the client awarded creative duties to Earle Palmer Brown, Philadelphia, after a review in which Doner participated. Media chores had been with The Media Edge, New York.
Adweek Expands Reporting Staff
NEW YORK–Cristina Merrill has returned to Adweek to cover media agencies as a reporter-at-large. Merrill had a prior stint at the magazine, but left in October 1997. Most recently, she worked at Young & Rubicam Inc. as an associate in corporate communications. Prior to Adweek, she covered private banking and money management at American Banker. Justin Dini also joins the news staff of Adweek’s Eastern edition as a reporter. Dini was previously managing editor at Compliance Reporter, a biweekly newsletter covering legal issues on Wall Street. Before that, he was a reporter at Insurance Finance & Investment.
