JWT Ends 9-Month Tenure With Dell
CHICAGO–Officials at J. Walter Thompson here expressed surprise and disappointment at Dell Computer’s decision last week to shift its $70 million corporate branding account to BBDO, New York. JWT had handled the account since last December. Its first campaign, tagged “Be direct,” began in June with a TV spot featuring a mouse setting fire to a maze to get a cheese reward. A representative for Round Rock, Texas-based Dell would not confirm the account shift or comment about the company’s intentions.
AL&T Assigned Everfresh, LaCroix
CHICAGO–Everfresh/LaCroix Beverages assigned the estimated $5 million account for its Everfresh juices and LaCroix flavored waters to Arian, Lowe & Travis here following a review [Adweek, July 27]. Another finalist, RPM Advertising here, will handle the company’s new Voodoo Rain juice line.
Mazda Names Internet Agency
DETROIT–Mazda North American Operations has chosen CKS Interactive, Cupertino, Calif., as its Web site agency of record after a three-month review, said Debbie Hjelmstrom, Mazda’s manager of integrated marketing. CKS will work with Mazda’s lead agency, W.B. Doner & Co. in Southfield, Mich., which will continue to develop brand strategies for the automaker that will be used in all forms of advertising. Doner helped the automaker conduct the search, Hjelmstrom said.
BBDO Chicago Adds Kahlœa Brand
CHICAGO–Allied Domecq has assigned the $12 million account for its Kahlœa liqueur to BBDO Chicago, according to sources. Incumbent Lois/EJL here and Square One in Dallas were the other finalists. Allied Domecq, based in Southfield, Mich., would not confirm the assignment; the agencies involved declined comment or could not be reached at press time.
Fallon Joins NationsBank/BoA Review
DALLAS–Sources said Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, is among the shops competing for the $80-100 million consolidated account of NationsBank and Bank of America. The agency declined to comment. Previously identified contenders are Bozell Worldwide, Lowe & Partners/SMS, Saatchi & Saatchi, all New York; Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas; and Deutsch, New York and Marina del Rey, Calif.
Marc Acquires Chicago’s Keroff & Rosenberg
CHICAGO–Marc USA in Pittsburgh announced its acquisition of Keroff & Rosenberg here, which has been renamed K&R/Marc. Terms of the acquisition of the $50 million shop were not disclosed. Marc earlier this year merged with Larkin, Meeder & Schweidel in Dallas, and Marc chairman Tony Bucci said he plans acquisitions next in San Francisco, followed by Boston and Seattle, to build the now-$280 million Marc agency network.
