Gambrinus to Increase Beer Promotions
DALLAS–Beer brewer and importer The Gambrinus Co. of San Antonio is holding a review for its expanded national promotional account just one year after consolidating that business at The Promotions Network in Dallas. Gambrinus director of marketing Ron Cristesson declined to characterize the process as a review, but confirmed, “We’re looking to expand our promotions and are taking a look at the year 2000.” Sources said the company will likely make a decision within a few weeks. Gambrinus is the importer of Corona Extra, Corona Light, Modelo Especial, Negro Modelo, Pacifica and Moosehead Lager. The company also owns Pete’s Brewing Co., producer of Pete’s Wicked Ale, and the Spoetzl Brewery, maker of Shiner Bock.
IQ Product’s Envi Review Is Put on Hold
DALLAS–The review for IQ Product’s line of Envi personal care products appears to have stalled. The $10 million account has been put on hold for several months, said IQ chairman Yohanne Gupta, as the Houston company enters the final stages of acquiring another firm in the personal care sector. In the meantime, an agency review continues for IQ’s automotive products. A decision is expected in about 30 days.
Michael Becomes AmStar’s First Agency
DALLAS–AmStar, a maker of retail payment systems used in ATM applications, has named Michael & Partners here its first agency of record. The projected annual media budget is $300,000. A search continues for a shop to handle financial relations for AmStar, which plans to go public this November. A Michael representative said the new campaign will include trade advertising and public relations, as well as a lesser amount of special events and direct mail.
Lopez Negrete to Target Latinos for BofA
DALLAS–Lopez Negrete Communications of Houston has been selected by Bank of America to handle its national Hispanic advertising and marketing efforts. A budget has not been set, but billings could easily double the $2-4 million NationsBank account previously handled by the agency, said principal Alex Lopez Negrete. “We’re obviously ecstatic,” he said. Lopez Negrete, which held the Hispanic account of NationsBank for seven years, competed against a number of undisclosed agencies in the recent review for the Bank of America business. BofA, with $614 billion in assets, is the largest bank in the U.S. with operations in 21 states and the District of Columbia.
Match Lands’s Branding
ATLANTA–Match here has been awarded branding and advertising duties for, a new Internet auction site that will debut later this summer. The Boulder, Colo.-based company’s Web venue is designed to help small Caribbean resort properties auction unsold rooms, allowing vacationers instant access to low off-season rates.
