GM Launches Olympic Effort
DETROIT – General Motors breaks an Olympic
advertising campaign on June 14 during the NBA finals on NBC with a 60-second spot entitled “Deconstruction” featuring Olympic gold medal winner Carl Lewis. The 60-second spot, from Berlin Cameron & Partners, New York, will run nationally through July 11 on network and cable channels. Print breaks in the June 21 issue of Sports Illustrated.
CME Grabs Birds Eye Promos
CHICAGO – Birds Eye, Green Bay, Wis., named Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, its promotion agency of record after a review of undisclosed agencies. The account was previously handled in-house.
Miller Alters Lite Tagline
CHICAGO – The tagline for Miller Lite has been tweaked, with advertising now using the line, “Taste a true pilsner,” rather than “The great taste of a true pilsner beer.” The line debuted in March in new TV spots from Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis.

ATLANTA – Dan Dahlen is joining Publicis & Hal Riney here as worldwide account director for Subway restaurants. Dahlen resigned last week as president of Rockett Burkhead & Winslow.
APL’s Top Ameritech Post Open
CHICAGO – Tom Sebok, executive vice president and managing director on Ammirati Puris Lintas, Chicago, Ameritech account here, has been promoted to executive vice president and multinational client director on the agency’s $150 million Iridium account out of APL New York. APL Chicago is considering candidates for Sebok’s job.
Doner Gets Progressive
DETROIT – Doner, Southfield, Mich., bested Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston and Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, last week for the $70 million Progressive Insurance account. following a three month review. The Southfield, Mich., agency succeeds The Arnell Group, New York, which was hired in August 1998.
New Reporter Joins Adweek
CHICAGO – Jenn Goddu has joined Adweek as a reporter in the magazine’s Midwest office. Goddu was previously a business reporter with the Gary (Ind.) Post-Tribune and worked at news organizations in her native Canada. Her arrival follows the recent appointment of Trevor Jensen as Adweek’s Midwest editor.
