Circuit City Taps 2 Finalists
NEW YORK–Two shops remain in the hunt for creative duties on Circuit City’s estimated $50 million ad account: DDB Worldwide, Chicago, and TBWA/Chiat/Day, New York, sources said. The agencies and client declined comment. Previous contenders included Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, and Deutsch, New York, sources said. A selection is expected by mid-August. The review began last month following the departure of New York agency DeVito/Verdi [Adweek, June 28].
Miller Resets Marketing Team
CHICAGO–Miller Brewing Co. has overhauled its sales and marketing division, the first major organizational moves at the Milwaukee-based brewery since John Bowlin and Bob Mikulay came over earlier this year from parent Philip Morris USA to run the company. Mikulay announced the formation of a market information and analysis department to be headed by Stuart Fuller, a longtime Philip Morris marketing executive. Brewery executives also reassigned brand directors.
DMB&B Breaks Pontiac Dealer Work
DETROIT–D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Troy, Mich., last week unveiled the first major Pontiac dealer effort since GM’s field reorganization. The campaign, titled “Hit the road,” will dominate the division’s advertising through September. New TV spots are based on the “Driving questions” campaign produced late last year for the Pontiac brand. “It’s a great showcase for our ability to develop integrated regional campaigns that leverage our national brand positioning to drive sales at retail,” said Pontiac field advertising manager Pete Maguire.
Noxzema Goes to the Movies
CHICAGO–Procter & Gamble will begin airing a spot this week in movie theaters nationwide for its Noxzema skin lotion. The ad, created by Leo Burnett here, uses a photo mosaic to tout the brand’s Skin Fitness line.
Tatham Makes Staff Changes, Adds More Midas
CHICAGO–Euro RSCG Tatham here announced several staff shifts and new hires last week. Suzanne Lord was promoted to director of agency operations. The former account manager replaces Bob Hielscher, who plans to retire in September. Judy Franks will take over the agency’s healthcare category leadership from Lord. Formerly head of Tatham’s media planning department, Franks was also named director of media services. The agency hired Lawrence “Lor” Gold as director of the new Sales Machine division. Gold joins from Frankel & Co. here to lead the marketing services division launched in May. Michael Oxman, most recently of D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in Troy, Mich., takes over as director of new business development. Separately, Tatham announced Friday it was named primary agency of record for all of Midas’ marketing services and point-of-sales needs. The $1 million account is in addition to the creative portion of the national ad account Tatham won in December 1998.
