Contenders Emerge for Hilton Hotels
LOS ANGELES-Hilton Hotels is expected to announce the finalists for its estimated $50 million global ad account within two weeks. Among the agencies invited to pitch the business are incumbents Dailey & Associates in Los Angeles and Zenith Media Worldwide in New York. Saatchi & Saatchi Pacific in Torrance, Calif., is defending the account for the Saatchi network, whose London office had handled the account overseas. Other contenders include J. Walter Thompson, Young & Rubicam and Ketchum Advertising, all in San Francisco.

PetsMart Extends Delay
LOS ANGELES-PetsMart, which launched a review of its $25 million account in June and put it on hold weeks later due to a management change, has extended the postponement through year’s end.

GSD&M Nets Pac Bell Yellow Pages
DALLAS-The recent merger of SBC Communications and Pacific Telesis has yielded another ad account consolidation, with GSD&M in Austin, Texas, earning the $10 million Pac Bell Yellow Pages business. The account was previously handled by Foote, Cone & Belding in San Francisco.

McAfee Selects Think New Ideas
LOS ANGELES-McAfee Associates, maker of network security and management software, has consolidated its marketing and advertising at Think New Ideas. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company selected the shop, which has dual headquarters in Hollywood, Calif., and New York, without a review. Ad expenditures are expected to be $10-15 million.

Fox Sports Teams With Spike/DDB
LOS ANGELES-Fox Sports Net will unveil in mid-September a series of promotional spots created by Spike/DDB, the New York-based agency joint venture between filmmaker Spike Lee and DDB Needham Worldwide. The ads, tagged “The NHL on Fox Sports Net: Be glad you’re just watching,” will air on Fox Sports Net’s regional networks.

Hughes Family Markets has narrowed the list of contenders for its $5 million account to five. Among the agencies: DavisElen and DDB Needham, both in Los Angeles; EvansGroup, Seattle; and Kovel Kresser & Partners, Santa Monica, Calif. Incumbent Evans, Hardy & Young in Santa Barbara, Calif., was included among the five but has declined to participate. . . . Margeotes/Fertitta + Partners in New York and one other undisclosed agency are in the final round for the $3-5 million ad account of JFax Communications in New York and Los Angeles. The winner will be named later this week, according to company officials. . . . Freeman Cosmetics has selected New York-based Horizon Media to handle its media buying duties. Horizon’s office in Los Angeles will lead the $4 million account.
