NEW YORK–Alberto-Culver, Melrose Park, Ill., is meeting with several agencies about its St. Ives account, a company representative confirmed. Among the likely candidates for the business are roster shops Lois/EJL in Chicago and Partners & Shevack here, sources said.
Target Takes Dole Back to Kansas
CHICAGO–Bob Dole has returned as TV pitchman, this time in a spot that broke July 20 in Olathe, Kan., to promote the opening there of a Target Superstore. Martin/Williams, Minneapolis, created the spot. The former senator and 1996 Republican presidential
candidate is shown offering Target customers the choice of paper or plastic bags at a checkout.
TNT Adds JWT’s Shanklin
CHICAGO–Elizabeth Shanklin has joined True North Technologies’ Northern Lights Interactive unit here as managing director. Previously, she served as group management director on the Motorola business at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago.
Kellogg Prepares Rice Krispies Extension
CHICAGO–The Kellogg Co. in September will introduce Razzle Dazzle Rice Krispies. The new lightly sweetened, five-color cereal will be backed via an estimated $40 million in marketing including TV spots in October during children’s programming. Spots will feature the animated Snap! Crackle! and Pop! characters. Leo Burnett in Chicago handles the Rice Krispies brand.
JWT in Detroit Promotes Foster
DETROIT–Mel Foster has been named executive creative director for all non-Ford Motor Co. accounts at J. Walter Thompson here. Previously he was group creative director of diversified accounts. In his new role, the 17-year JWT veteran will serve as creative partner to Steve Brown, JWT Detroit general manager. Foster is chairman of the Detroit Creative Director’s Council.
Wells Rich Greene BDDP Changes Its Name
NEW YORK–Wells Rich Greene BDDP will become Wells BDDP when it opens its doors at a new lower Manhattan location July 28. The holding company for the New York agency, formerly Wells Rich Greene BDDP Communications, will now be called BDDP North America. “We are changing our name to reinforce our global identity. . . . We are a key player and very much a part of the BDDP worldwide network,” said Frank Assumma, chairman and chief executive officer of the agency and the holding company.
Alvin Eicoff, chairman emeritus of A. Eicoff & Co. here, will be inducted into the Direct Marketing Association Hall of Fame in October. . . Pharmacia & Upjohn, Kalamazoo, Mich., selected the New York office of DraftDirect Worldwide as consumer agency of record for Detrusitol, a prescription incontinence medicine awaiting regulatory approval.
