Havas, Snyder Deal Expected to Close

BOSTON—Havas Advertising’s $2.1 billion stock buyout of Snyder Communications is expected to close today, following a meeting of Havas shareholders in Paris; Havas stock will likely begin trading under the HADV symbol on the Nasdaq exchange on Wednesday, according to a Havas spokeswoman. Snyder’s Arnold Communications in Boston will become the lead agency in Havas’ international Campus network. Bounty SCA will operate as a unit of Havas’ other major network, Euro RSCG Worldwide, which is headquartered in New York. Snyder’s remaining divisions, Brann Worldwide and, will report to the company’s Diversified Agencies Group in Paris. Havas last week bought a 60-percent stake in London financial PR firm Hudson Sandler, which will now report in through DAG.

Hill, Holliday Says Something for Herald

BOSTON—Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos has begun rolling out its first ads for the Boston Herald, the region’s second-largest daily newspaper. The tagline, “Somebody’s got to say it,” is introduced in radio, print and billboard executions; no TV is planned. The Boston Globe, New England’s largest circulation paper, recently broke a branding effort from Holland Mark Advertising tagged “Designed to fit your life.”

IPG Realigns Global PR Operations

BOSTON—The Interpublic Group of Cos. is consolidating offices and practices from its three major public relations brands—Weber Public Relations Worldwide, Shandwick International and Golin/Harris—to form two networks: Weber Shandwick Worldwide and Golin/Harris International. Larry Weber, chairman and chief executive of IPG’s Allied Communications Group, becomes CEO of Weber Shandwick Worldwide. Golin/Harris will be based in Chicago and helmed by chairman Al Golin, chief executive Rich Jernstedt and president Dave Gilbert.

Bill Bradley Joins UPromise as Advisor

BOSTON—Former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley has joined UPromise as an advisor and board member. The Brookline, Mass., for-profit venture, launched by former agency executive Michael Bronner, will allow customers who register online to buy goods and services from partner firms in order to get rebates deposited directly into tax-deferred college savings accounts. McCann-Erickson, New York, handles UPromise’s $30 million ad account, though Bronner said ads likely won’t break until next year.
