Haggar Departs GSD&M for Foundation
DALLAS–Haggar Clothing Co. here has shifted creative assignments on its $10 million account from GSD&M in Austin, Texas, to Seattle-based advertising and design company Foundation, a former project shop for the client. The clothing firm said it plans to decide soon on the allocation of its media planning and buying assignments, also formerly with GSD&M. Haggar makes men’s casual and dress apparel and women’s sportswear. GSD&M representative Eric Webber said the clothier wanted to consolidate its agency roster to coincide with plans to drop television advertising and concentrate on point-of-sale and design marketing avenues. “Foundation is a more logical choice than we are” for those plans, said Webber. He declined comment on whether GSD&M is still in line for the company’s media chores.
Ryland Homes Nears Agency Decision
ATLANTA–Ryland Homes of Columbia, Md., could decide today on the winner of the $2 million advertising account for its four Texas markets, according to sources. The four shops in contention are Henderson Advertising in Greenville, S.C.; Bates Southwest in Houston; Fellers in Austin, Texas; and The Hay Agency in Dallas. Henderson already handles Ryland’s Southeast markets. The Houston incumbent, Goswick Advertising, resigned the business earlier this year. The homebuilder’s Lone Star markets include Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. The company primarily targets initial home buyers and owners upgrading to larger houses for the first time.
IQ Products Confirms Envi Review
DALLAS–Houston-based IQ Products has begun talks with a “handful” of undisclosed agencies about the estimated $10 million advertising account for its Envi beauty and body care products, according to a client official. The company recently parted ways with Bates Southwest in Houston, several months after hiring that agency for the Envi product line. IQ Products chairman Yohanne Gupta said he hopes to have a new shop within “60 to 90 days.”
McCuller Makes Move to WarrenCordes+
DALLAS–Michael McCullar, a senior public relations official at Staats Falkenberg & Partners in Austin, Texas, has joined crosstown agency WarrenCordes+ as a partner. McCullar, a former journalist with the Austin American-Statesman, also has worked at Kamstra Communications in Austin.
Temerlin Launches Ads for St. John’s Bay
DALLAS–Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas, last week introduced a new $10 million advertising effort for J.C. Penney’s private label, St. John’s Bay. The new campaign tagline for the casual menswear line is: “Every day is the weekend.” Temerlin is utilizing television as well as print media. Broadcast buying is handled by TeleVest in New York.
