CHICAGO–The Rosen Group in Chicago broke a campaign last week for Major League Soccer team the Chicago Fire. The spots, which consist of “Fireside” chats with players and the coach, end with the entire team screaming “Fire!” and displaying their 1998 MLS championship trophy.
PNC Asks Doner, Mullen for More Time
BOSTON–PNC Bank officials are holding a new round of meetings with Doner, Southfield, Mich., and Mullen, Wenham, Mass., the two finalists in the review for the client’s $25 million account. The meetings, set for the end of the month, are mostly “getting to know you” sessions, according to Denise Johnson, PNC’s senior vice president of corporate marketing. Johnson said previous daylong presentations left both the client and agencies feeling rushed.
Bates Wins Sauza Tequila Creative Account
NEW YORK–Bates USA in New York has been awarded the creative portion of the $12-15 million ad account for Allied Domecq Spirits USA’s Sauza tequila. The shop got the nod over BBDO, Chicago, and incumbent Weiss Stagliano Partners and Select Communications, both in New York. Bates’ speculative creative campaign sported the tagline, “100% pure, not entirely innocent,” sources said. Zenith Media here handles media chores.
GM Pushes Online Car Buying via DMB&B
LOS ANGELES–D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles highlights the advantages of shopping for a new car over the Internet in a pair of special effects-laden TV spots for General Motors’ Buypower program. The budget for the national campaign is $30 million, according to industry estimates. “Lamp Posts,” which broke during the Academy Awards, depicts a man logging onto the Buypower Web site ( The scene changes to show a GM lot where moving lampposts illuminate the vehicles the man clicks on with his mouse. Web ads and print executions support the TV work.
Deutsch Picks Up Bank One’s $60 Mil. Account
