“Oracle Narrows Search, Adds Global Duties
LOS ANGELES-Global incumbent DDB, London, was added Friday as a late finalist in the review for Oracle Corp.’s global and U.S. account, estimated to be worth a combined $90 million. The other four finalists in the review are: Young & Rubicam, San Francisco; Leo Burnett, Chicago; Grey Advertising, New York; and Bozell Worldwide, San Mateo, Calif. A decision is expected by mid-June. Think New Ideas, Los Angeles, the incumbent on the U.S. ad account, declined to participate in the review. Earlier last week, executives with the Redwood Shores, Calif.-based client confirmed the scope of the search included global ad duties, but had said DDB would not participate (see Shoptalk, page 12).

SAN FRANCISCO-CNet was in final negotiations last week with Citron Haligman Bedecarr Euro RSCG here for its national branding account, worth an estimated $30-40 million in billings. The account is being awarded after a review of about 20 agencies in the San Francisco area, where CNet, a Web and TV programming company, is based.

LOS ANGELES-Noggin, a recently launched commercial-free educational TV network for kids, has selected Ogilvy & Mather, Los Angeles, to create a trade and consumer campaign slated to break this week. O&M’s work for Noggin, which teams Viacom’s Nickelodeon and the Children’s Television Workshop, will feature the tagline “Noggin: Use it.” Billings were not disclosed.
“Toshiba Narrows Computer Chase to 9 Shops
LOS ANGELES-Toshiba America’s computer systems division has narrowed the list of contenders for its estimated $30 million business to nine West Coast agencies, said sources. The shops, which last week began chemistry checks with the Irvine, Calif.-based client, are D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and Kovel/Fuller, both Los Angeles; DGWB, Irvine; JSM+ Communications, Santa Monica, Calif.; and five undisclosed others, sources said.
“Deutsch Joins Broad’s NFL Squad
LOS ANGELES-Deutsch/LA, Marina del Rey, Calif., will make a presentation in Atlanta on Monday night to the National Football League committee on behalf of client Eli Broad, who heads a Los Angeles expansion team effort called New Coliseum. Deutsch will propose a two-year, $20 million marketing effort designed to drum up support for an L.A. team. Plans call for a Super Bowl ad kickoff next year if the group is awarded the franchise.
