Richards Group Emerges in Epson Hunt
DALLAS–The Richards Group, Dallas, was among nine agencies confirmed as contenders for the $20 million ad account of Epson America of Torrance, Calif. Also contending is The Focus Agency of Dallas [Adweek, Dec. 8]. Presentations are scheduled for Jan. 7-9, with a cut to four finalists expected at that time.
Radio Shack Pulls Advertising In-house
NEW YORK–Radio Shack is withdrawing its $94 million account from the Lord Group in favor of its in-house ad group. Agency chairman Richard Lord said the Fort Worth, Texas-based client had been with the shop for about four years. The client did not return calls for comment. Client officials had denied rumors in recent months that the account was in jeopardy at Lord.
America West Cuts Contenders From Review
SAN FRANCISCO–The Richards Group here has been eliminated as a contender for the $20 million America West Airlines ad account, according to sources. The airline is scheduled to announce on Tuesday whether Hal Riney & Partners here or Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, will handle all duties, insiders said. Also cut was J. Walter Thompson, San Francisco, according to sources. Richards officials could not be reached for comment last week. DeWitt Helm, a partner at consultancy Achenbaum Bogda Associates in New York, which is conducting the review, declined comment. The winning agency will be selected after the shops meet with members of the airline’s board in Phoenix, sources said. Incumbent Team One Advertising, El Segundo, Calif., declined to participate.
Pan to Lend Holiday Help to Cole-Haan
BOSTON–Pan Communications in Andover, Mass., has been retained by Cole-Haan for public relations chores for the footwear company’s leather goods and accessories during the holiday season. The Richards Group in Dallas handles the client’s advertising duties. Pan was selected based on its retail experience.
Boston’s Keiler Wins Texas Aviation Biz
BOSTON–Keiler & Co. beefed up its collection of aviation clients by winning the ad account of Fairchild Dornier, a San Antonio, Texas-based airplane manufacturer. The Farmington, Conn., agency was awarded the business after a review that included six undisclosed shops on both sides of the Atlantic. No Southwest shops were in the pitch.
