The Middleton Group Conducts Mystery Review
LOS ANGELES–The Middleton Group, a New York-based consultant affiliated with public relations firm Middleton & Glendron, has contacted 10 small-to-midsized West Coast agencies in the preliminary stages of a creative-focused review it is handling for an undisclosed client, confirmed president Todd Middleton. The women-focused client, also on the West Coast, is mainly interested in retail, broadcast direct response work and intends to spend in the “substantial double digits,” Middleton said. Media duties also may be included but are “a secondary issue,” said Middleton.
Bronner Taps Smith to Lead Sansome Unit
BOSTON–Paul Smith has been named president of the Sansome Group in San Francisco, a unit of Bronner Slosberg Humphrey. For the past six months, Smith served as senior vice president of Post Communications, an online marketing startup, also in San Francisco. Prior to that, he served as managing director of Wunderman Cato Johnson in San Francisco and New York.
OWN&P Picks Up Mervyn’s Assignment
SAN FRANCISCO–Mervyn’s Stores, Hayward, Calif., has asked Odiorne Wilde Narraway & Partners to create broadcast ads celebrating the retail chain’s 50th anniversary, sources said. The agency picked up the estimated $8-10 million assignment without a review, said sources.
Goodby, Silverstein to Spin Off Design Unit
SAN FRANCISCO–Goodby, Silverstein & Partners will spin off its design unit as a stand-alone company, sources said, and will invest in the yet-to-be-named firm, led by agency executives Paul Curtin and Rob Price.
ADT Conducts Agency Review
NEW YORK–ADT, a leading security service company, has put its $30 million U.S. ad account in review. The Boca Raton, Fla.-based client has retained AAR/Bob Wolf Partners, the bicoastal search consultant, to handle the review. Rapp Collins Worldwide in New York, the five-year incumbent, has been invited to defend.
Reviews Roundup … KB&P West Talks With IHOP
Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners West is in final negotiations with International House of Pancakes, Glendale, Calif., about handling the client’s $20 million creative account, sources said. The other finalist is Butler, Shine & Stern, Sausalito, Calif. The review is being handled by consultancy Select Resources International, Los Angeles. Software company PeopleSoft, Pleasanton, Calif., named Citron Haligman Bedecarrƒ, Young & Rubicam and Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners West, all San Francisco, as the three finalists in the review for its estimated $10-15 million account, sources said. Incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi in San Francisco parted ways with the client last month.
