LOS ANGELES–Disney Interactive has contacted undisclosed agencies about an estimated $5 million assignment to launch a Tarzan CD-ROM. The review is being headed by Russell Kalban, director of marketing services at the Burbank, Calif.-based unit of Walt Disney Co. The client did not return calls.
GMO Breaks Citra Work
SAN FRANCISCO–Goldberg Moser O’Neill, San Francisco, breaks a new campaign for Coca-Cola’s Citra brand this week, again using the tag, “No thirst is safe.” A 30-second TV spot, shot in black-and-white, features a 1930s-style “thirst gangster” called “Cotton Mouth” who is ambushed by a can of Citra waiting in his car.
FCB Touts L.A. Cellular Name Change in Ads
LOS ANGELES–Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco, last week broke a new campaign in the Los Angeles area announcing L.A. Cellular’s name change to AT&T Wireless Services. The TV spots show L.A. Cellular stores converting to AT&T Wireless facilities as a salesman explains customers will still get the same service. Radio and print ads support the TV work.
Goodby Launches 3dfx Campaign
LOS ANGELES–Goodby, Silverstein & Partners next week launches its first campaign for 3dfx, a maker of 3D applications technology. The national effort will be targeted primarily toward males aged 18 to 34. The campaign will be supported with a budget of $10 million.
Reviews Roundup … DreamWorks Mulls Shops
J. Walter Thompson, San Francisco, has won two separate reviews for Pacific Gas & Electric. The agency was named the brand agency in a review conducted by Lee Anne Morgan & Partners, New York, on behalf of the San Francisco client. Separately, JWT was named media agency of record in a review conducted by Morgan Anderson Consulting, also New York. Billings are estimated to be $10-15 million. … DreamWorks Pictures, Universal City, Calif., is still reviewing its media buying options between roster agencies Focus Media, Los Angeles, and GSD&M, Austin, Texas. “Absolutely no decision has been made yet,” said DreamWorks representative Amy Gruberg, adding that it will likely take another month. … Del Taco, the Laguna Hills, Calif.-based regional fast-food restaurant chain, has put its estimated $5 million account into review. Incumbent Italia/Gal, Los Angeles, has been invited to defend.
Longtime Grey Media Director Rifkin Dies
LOS ANGELES–Sue Rifkin, senior vice president and media director of Grey Advertising’s Los Angeles office, died last Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. Rifkin was 53, and had been with Grey for over 31 years.
