Homestead Narrows to 2 Local, 2 Out-of-State





ATLANTA–Although Homestead Village here had expressed a preference for an Atlanta agency (Adweek, April 28), two not-so-nearby shops made the shortlist last week. Just Partners in Richmond, Va., and Atlantis Marketing of St. Louis joined Austin Kelley Advertising and Bigelow & Eigel here as finalists for the $1 million-plus account. All four demonstrated an understanding of the travel/lodging category, said Amanda Madean, the Atlanta marketing consultant coordinating the search for the quickly growing chain of extended-stay hotels. Madean expects to select an agency by next week.





Martin Agency Lands Finlandia Vodka





ATLANTA–As expected, Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide last week selected The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., as agency for its $8.5 million Finlandia vodka account. At one time Martin was rumored to have been dropped from the agency search, and that the finalists were Hill Holliday/Altschiller and M&C Saatchi, both of New York. However, Martin president and creative director Mike Hughes said the client had told him during the pitch it ‘wanted to look at some different things’ and Martin was never eliminated from the process. ‘This is the kind of assignment we love,’ Hughes said. ‘Taking an established premium product and changing the way consumers think about it.’ The agency’s first major creative work will appear late this year.





Henderson Acquires White Lily Food





ATLANTA–Henderson Advertising in Greenville, S.C., was named agency of record last Friday by White Lily Foods, according to Kevin Janiga, vice president of consumer sales and marketing for the client. The Knoxville, Tenn.-based client also heard presentations from Ogilvy & Mather in Atlanta and Price/McNabb in Charlotte, N.C. White Lily, which had been with WestWayne in Atlanta, has billings of approximately $750,000.





3 Winners See Double (Gold) at Atlanta Amy’s





ATLANTA–Austin Kelley Advertising, J. Walter Thompson and Willard & Co. each took home two gold Amy awards Saturday night from the Atlanta chapter of the American Marketing Association. Ten other local companies secured one gold prize apiece. Zenon Nie, chairman and chief executive officer of Simmons Co., was recognized as Marketer of the Year.





Computer Maker Taps Maryland Shop





ATLANTA–Strategic Communications Group in Silver Spring, Md., was appointed agency of record by SMAC Data Systems, manufacturer of personal computers for corporate and government clients. The Gaithersburg, Md., company did not have a previous agency of record. The budget for the full-service advertising account was estimated in the ‘mid-six-figure’ range, according to the agency.
