“Bell: No Third Arm for True North
CHICAGO-True North Communications is no longer seeking a third agency network, which chief executive officer David Bell called “a shift of strategic focus” under his command. “We have no plans for a third network,” Bell said in remarks following the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Chicago. “We have brands that are extremely capable.” Former chief executive officer Bruce Mason, who stepped down March 31, was open in his desire for a network to complement True North’s Foote, Cone & Belding and Bozell Worldwide properties. Bell said True North would continue its efforts to build a stronger global network for its existing divisions (including True North Diversified Cos., parent of Irving, Texas-based Temerlin McClain) through acquisitions and mergers, concentrating initially on Europe. There are also plans to “aggressively expand” its promotional services group outside the U.S.
