“Oracle Narrows Search, Adds Global Duties
LOS ANGELES-Global incumbent DDB, London, was added Friday as a late finalist in the review for Oracle Corp.’s global and U.S. account, estimated to be worth a combined $90 million. The other four finalists in the review are: Leo Burnett, Chicago; Young & Rubicam, San Francisco; Grey Advertising, New York; and Bozell Worldwide, San Mateo, Calif. A decision is expected by mid-June. Earlier last week, executives with the Redwood Shores, Calif.-based client confirmed the scope of the search included global ad duties, but had said DDB had declined to participate (see Shoptalk, page 12).
“Doner’s Promotion Blockbuster
DETROIT-Doner’s summer promotion for Blockbuster Entertainment, dubbed “Million Dollar Days,” launches this week with a 30-second TV spot. Along with print and radio ads, it uses the theme, “Walk in with your card, walk out a multimillionaire.” On each day of the 10-week promotion, a Blockbuster member will be randomly flagged in the company’s computer system. If that member has their card scanned on that day, they can instantly win $1 million, among other prizes.

CHICAGO-Valentine-Radford in Kansas City, Mo., last week launched a relationship marketing division. Agency president and chief executive officer Chuck Curtis said the new unit was driven by clients who want “accountability in every marketing service we offer.”
“Webster Rises to Top at Y&R Detroit
DETROIT-As expected, Michael Webster has been named president at Young & Rubicam in Detroit [Adweek, May 10]. Webster, 47, had been promoted to the No. 2 position at Ross Roy Communications, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., just over a month ago. His successor at Ross Roy has not been named.

CHICAGO-“Charlie the Tuna” returns in TV spots from Northlich Stolley LaWarre, Cincinnati, behind StarKist Solid White Albacore. The spots break in 15 markets, including New York and Los Angeles, and employ the tagline, “Our best quality, best tasting tuna ever.”
“Fallon Splits With Wenner Media
CHICAGO-Wenner Media, New York, is looking at six potential agencies to replace longtime partner Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, after the two parted ways. Officials at the company and agency said the decision was mutual and based on “creative differences.” Fallon was Wenner’s agency for 14 years.

CHICAGO-A national TV and radio effort for Hoover’s Caddy Vac vacuums breaks nationally this week, employing the longtime jingle, “Nobody does it like you,” but introducing a new tag, “Deep down, you want Hoover.” The work is from Euro RSCG Tatham here.
